Question:

Can I iron a leather jacket?

The back of my jacket has a double pleat (like an invisible expansion) that has folded open on one side. I‘m trying to figure out how to make it lie flat again. An iron? OR?

Answer:

You can go to tandy leather and use an ax all to use a specialilized needle and thread. I have a jacket 28 years old from JC Whitney with a lot of patches (leather and pre fab) that still is bad to the bone. Learn some leather craft or have a friend or have it done by someone familiar with leather work,
Iron as if it was a cotton shirt? NO!!!! But according to Wilson's Leather, If ironing is necessary, place heavy brown paper over the leather and use a cool to medium iron. Take care not to overheat the leather, which will cause it to shine.
As the previous members have said - do not iron your leather jacket. What you can do is to block it or press it. Arrange your coat on a clean, stable, flat surface cover it with a cloth or towel place a flat weighted object over the pleat. Use something like a dictionary of phone book. Check to make sure it isn't too heavy and creating another line or crease elsewhere. Leave the weight on for about 30 minutes to an hour. If this doesn't work, consult a dry cleaner who can clean leather clothing. You may have to have it cleaned and professionally blocked.
