Question:

Can I paint my metal shower door frame?

My shower door frame is ugly! It is gold. Most shower frames these days are silver. Is there any way to paint the gold metal? My biggest obstacle is having the paint stick long term through out the daily waterings. If there is a way, please let me on any prep work that I many need to do. (Born blond) I really dont want to buy a new frame as they run a couple of hunderd dollars. I would like it to nice- afterall the house will be sold with the new old frame. Thanks!!!

Answer:

You can actually get a metal type spray paint and try that and then spray a clear spray paint over it..i seen it on trading spaces for a washer and dryer once..
Paint Shower Door Frame
You really can't paint an metal shower door frame. You could...but it would look horrible. If you are planning on selling your house, you should know that the value will increase if you take the initiative to just buy a new door frame. It will look nicer and will last longer. I'd look at hardware stores like Home Depot and see if they have any sales on frames.
unfortunately, you are going to have to purchase a new door if you want the metal finishes to match. the cost of having your existing door's track, frame, etc..., removed taken to a plating company (this is the only way the finish would ever stick, paint will absolutely not work) would be more than a new door. there is no option in the $20 range, other than completely removing the door and getting a rod/curtain to replace it (if you have tub shower - if its a separate shower, this is not an option) and that will still be more than $20, since a decent curtain liner will cost more than that, let alone a new oil rubbed bronze finish rod curtain clips.
You could. You would have to give it a light sand, then apply mineral based etch primer, mineral based undercoat and you can use a 1 pack polyurethaine gloss finish. This should stand up to a shower environment. They use this method outside in severe conditions on metal so it will withstand your shower.
