Question:

Can I preform abdominal surgery on myself?

I have 2 cysts in my abdominal wall, one on the side of my stomach and one directly above my belly button. My mom and dad won't let me get surgery because they aren't life threatening, but I want them gone. You can see them when I stretch my stomach and you can feel them though my skin. Can I preform surgery on myself by taking like a knife or something and cutting them out?? And how do you prevent scarring? Cuz I'm a girl and I can't have a scar on my stomach for when I go swimming. Please help!

Answer:

I would not recommend doing this on your own! My suggestion would be to find out about getting emancipated (divorced) from your parents, so that you can legally get medical help without them. And let the professionals do their job. Your situation seems to be risky for many complications that could arise from trying to do a procedure such as this on your own. Please seek assistance from another trustworthy adult(s).
Really bad idea. You might cut another organ if you even try. Go to someone that can bring you to the hospital and they'll preform the surgery. They're professionals, they know better.
Sure you can, if you want to. I would not. Now have you truly thought about this? Infections, pain, exactly how you are going to make an incision in your abdomen, muscle tissue, drain the cysts (without infections) suture your self up with drains and not be rendered unconscious due to pain. Now you could do this as street theater and let the EMT take you into a hospital to repair your abdomen and place you in a psych ward for observations, but make sure your shill is honest and your hat for donations actually gets back to you.
Please don't do it yourself... Talk to your mom and dad and say that you really want it done.
