Ah the mysteries of the brain... although it may seem like the surgeon is being a bit rough it is ok. the brain is like a sponge and can be moved around to a certain degree. Unfortunately they dont show a very good view of what part of the brain they are removing the tumor by so it could be in the cerebral cortex or just gray matter. (both are useful but they can be moved with no harm done). it is typical to have the patients awake during brain surgery. contrary to popular belief there are no real nerves on the top of your head other than on the skin. this allows for ppl to not feel pain. plus it helps to have the person awake so that a nurse can continuously talk to them and ask them questions to be sure that nothing is worng
