Okay, i already have carpet in my house but the thing is...the carpet in the living room is hideous it doesn't match anything that i'm trying to do!! I would love to just rip the carpet up and put a new one down but i'm only renting this house! Anywho, can i put a big enough room sized rug over the carpet...how tacky would that be. I actually think it'll cover the whole carpet, it's pretty big my living room is pretty small! Any suggestions???
Sure! Go for it. What color is the carpet and how high/low is the pile? It helps when the carpet is low pile and neutral. But if it isn't, the more you can cover it with a large rug the better. But consider what oneman says as well.
pay attention that putting a community rug over contemporary carpeting will reason the carpet fibers below to be flattened. in case you so no longer get rid of the section rug generally and sparkling below, the fibers below would be a different shade of the uncovered fibers the two from fading with the room's gentle or accumulation of airborne dirt and dirt. Aesthetically, you're able to try this in any room. frequently the carpet below ought to be a low pile style of carpet fiber. it could hide grotesque damages or completely exchange the colour of a room tremendously in case you're renting.
Depending on the carpet/rug you want to put down, you might make a deal with the landlord for replacement of the carpet already down. Laying a carpet/rug on top of another can cause a mildewing affect, the carpet underneath needs to breath. Other than this, the only thing that might be of some concern is it will create a spongy feel when walked on.
Sure you can, my daughter just did exactly this. She found a rug, that matched all her furnishing, and had a bit of the color of the existing carpet color so it flowed well and it looks really nice. It can take alot of searching. I dont know where you live, in some areas people sell rugs on the side of the road type people or at swap meets, have the best prices and seem to have the most interesting types. IKEA has rugs that are pretty reasonable too if you have one near you. To simply get carpet laid over your carpet can be done, but, pretty much when you move and pull it up the carpet below for some reason gets really damaged this way. Having a huge rug that you can occassionally pull back and vacuum under is better. Happy hunting!!!!!
I do, I just make sure I lift the area rug once a week and vacuum the carpet underneath.
