Question:

Can I put water shield spray on my bearings?

Alright, I don't know if it would be a good Idea to put the Water shield repelling coat spray that you put on shoes, on Longboard bearings. Since I ride my longboard constantly, and I really would like to ride it in the rain. As much as I want to do that, I don't want to get my bearings rusty or at risk from them being rusty. So I was thinking if you could put water repellent spray on my bearings.

Answer:

That may me very bad for your bearings. Anything applied to bearings other than official skate bearing lubricants will damage your bearings. It may clog or mix in with the lubricants already in your bearings, which will cause it to slow down/not perform at its best.
It won't work. If you want to ride in the rain, you need either solid stainless steel bearings or solid ceramic bearings. Both races and balls must be made of ceramic or SS. They cost more, but aren't harmed by water. Water will also damage the deck unless you have a fiberglass or carbon fiber deck.
