Question:

Can i replace the rod bearings by just dropping the oil pan?

same with the rods? '98 eclipse with a 420a engine, manual.

Answer:

Rod bearings can be replaced just by dropping the pan. That should be just a preventative measure however. If you're hearing a rod knock the crankshaft journals are probably damaged and need to be reground or the crank itself needs to be replaced.
Really you need to take the head off also.It would be hard getting at the piston end bearing by just dropping the sump.
I consider Rakel. If the connecting rod bearings are long gone.....then so is the crankshaft. it is going to could be became and the right length of recent rod bearings put in. it particularly is particularly not a activity with the engine nevertheless interior the vehicle.
