Question:

Can i stop using engine oil in my motorbike and instead use oil additives only?

I have a 350cc royal enfield motorbike. For every service of the bike i replace the engine oil 1 gallon and add oil additives such as STP, ABRO, NULON. I realized the performance of my engine has become better. Now i was imagining to use complete oil additive 1 gallon and stop using engine oil. I know this would be expensive because oil additives cost more than regualar engine oil but will my bike performance work at optimum level and has anyone tried anything like this?

Answer:

If you believe you can tell the difference in performance using the snake oil additives your using your mind is playing tricks on you. I'll bet if you switch to all additives your bike will fly, but not for long. The rod bearings would be the first thing to go.
No. Oil additives are mainly detergents to keep the engine clean and to prevent sludge. They are not lubricants. Quite frankly oil additives are little more than scams. I've never used additives on any of my cars and never had an engine problem in hundreds of thousands of miles. Engine oil already contains all the detergents the engine needs. Just changing the oil regularly is sufficient.
Say goodbye to your engine. Running detergent will fry it within minutes.
