My boyfriend and I got in a small argument when we were looking to de clutter and store items in our atticI looked up in the attic and realized that there is no floor, it is just exposed insulationHe assured me that it is fine to store items directly on the insulationI did not agree!! Finally I convinced him to at least put a tarp down to store the few boxes we wanted stored up there onSo who is right?? Is it ok to store things directly on the insulation????
Compressing the insulation by setting something on it will decrease the insulation valueYou should also make sure that the ceiling joists are supporting the weight of your stuff and not the ceiling itselfI wouldn't use a tarp, though because it will condense moisture under it when the attic is cold1/4 plywood strips would be better.
