I have a rug that I need to wash but it says I need to front load wash it but I have a top load. If I top load wash it will it mess it up or will it be okay?
It doesn't matter if it's a top or front load machine--what matters is what the rug is made of and how big it is. If it won't FIT in a top-loader, then you have to use a laundromat's front-loader. BIG rugs have a lot of trouble fitting into some smallish top-loaders. That's why they tell you to use a front-loader--because the washer will not unbalance during washing a single rug that way, and it will be easier to get it in and out. If your run is more than 3X5 feet, you'll probably not be able to get it into a top-loader--take it to the laundromat and use their large-capacity front-loaders.
It depends on the size of the rug. I would say anything bigger than a 4 X 6 rug should not be washed in a top loader.
I washed a couple of rugs not long ago I made a solution of laundry detergent and poured it all over the rug I hosed it down with a pressure sprayer I repeated it a couple of times, if you do not have access to an outdoor hose do it in the bathtub
the answers above work fine, however, if you're in a hurry and don't have time for the dry cleaner... something that does work and is inexpensive, (I do this all the time without damage to the rug and it is clean and fresh every time over a 6 year period with this one) Hang the rug on the clothes line or over something similar, get the garden hose and wet saturating the rug. This is very safe for rugs and cleans as well as deodorized and actually boost the clean smell of the area you have it in. Putting rugs into a washer is NOT recommended and can void your warranty.
