Question:

can kitchen cabinets be mounted on a floating floor?

I want to put a floating floor in my kitchen and I was told I had to put the floor down after I put in my cabinets

Answer:

Say Whatt? they messin' with ya! Sit the cabinets in place to see what new limits may be hindering the proper placement of your floating floor. Like, will you need any bumpers on the edges? where will the stops be placed; above or below the surface!? Now if you want to add more cabinets to the floating floor you still can by measuring for their placement before any permanent mounting is done! (as in the prior cabinets I mentioned)
Two very easy things: 1. You can install hardwood flooring yourself - you buy precut pieces that fit together like puzzle - you will get done in no time. Simple yet looking very sleek and elegant. 2. A piece of wood trim, cut to dimensions, will easily cover the bottom of the cabinet. In fact, even a piece of plywood would do! Just make sure that whatever type of wood, you use to cover up the area will stain the same shade as the cabinets (you can try on a small piece of wood and see if you get the desired shade once the stain dries completely). Good luck and congratulations on your purchase!
No. You can't set the cabinets on the floor. dlobryan1 is absolutely correct. A floating floor has to be able to float, and cabinets have to be secured, but if you need to you can always install the floor first. When it comes time to set the cabinets, just mark the area, tape it off to protect the surface of the laminate, and rip it down with a circular saw, you'll need a good heavy 1/4 to 1/2 gap around them any way, and then just shoe mold the cabinets. Just make sure you nail to the cabinets and not to the floor.
Floating Floor In Kitchen
If you put down the floating floor then the cabinets, the fastening of cabinets and the weight will make the floor buckle and will look awful. Plus it will tear up your floor and make you wish that you didn't put the cabinets down first. Added bonus is that you will save a few bucks on not having to put the floor down under that cabinets.
