My husband bought laundry detergent for a front loading machine. He didn't read the label!! Can I use this detergent in a top loading machine or should I return it? If I do use it what may happen?

I have a front loader. I would just return it and not take a chance. HE detergents are low-sudsing.
You can use detergent for a front loader in a top loader just not vice versa. I bought a large jug of the wrong stuff and have been using it for weeks now with no problems.
Detergent designed for top loaders will foam too much when used in a front loader. This cuts down on the effectiveness of the cleaning ability, and may cause the washer to overflow. Return it.
