I've bought a smoky quartz about 25 years ago. A friend told me it could have been irradiated to get its dark colour and could still be a little bit dangerous for health. Is it possible ? I bought it in Canada, don't know its exact origin.Thank you.
My choice will be a automatic mechanical watch. Quartz watch is cheap for daily use. You may not even need one because of the time function available in other electronic gadgets such mobile phone.
he not wrong. quartz cheapens the watch, whilst automatic movement is a precision work of art.
Automatic one's are more classic and durable compared to quartz ( of course it is accurate)
A watch is a tool to me, My Criteria: Black plastic and shock resistant Waterproof strong band digital display (Gives most info. at a glance, day, date, month) Must be backlit Quartz uses a micro-computer, and was a BIG DEAL because now Accuracy can be achieved even in a low cost watch, what's better than that ? should be under $60, I've found them for $20
Mechanical watches are more prestigious than quartz ones and cost more for given models. For example I own a Cartier Tank L.C. manual-wind mechanical version that cost $5600 in 18kt yellow gold in 1996-2000 Cartier catalogs. A gold quartz one for men cost $4350 then. Both are costlier now, of course. I own more manual-wind wartches than automatic or self-wind ones.
