Question:

Can you get a roofing tax rebate and a window rebate?

Is the government tax rebate for energy efficient replacement of roofs and windows a one time slush pile, or can you qualify for $1500 for roofing and $1500 for windows?

Answer:

No. The total credit for all qualified energy improvements is limited to $1500 total.
those are credits, they are not refundable 'rebates' a rebate is when a manufacturer will send you a specific dollar amount when you submit your receipt to them and they send you some money back, in essence, reducing the price of the item but the energy credits are just that and they apply to your tax liability ie if you don't have much of a tax liability, you just installed nice new windows in your house--that's how it worked for me
And, you have to actually OWE $1500 in tax to see a benefit. If you don't owe, you don't get anything. (PS, this was a 2 year credit. If you already used it in 2009, then you wouldn't have anything left for 2010.)
You can get a $1500 credit. It doesn't matter so much how much you've paid already, but more so what your total tax liabilty is...if it's greater than $1500. You should look at an old tax return to understand it...Depending on what form you use, it there will be a line than says tax obligation or something like that. Then there is a line that says taxes paid. If the tax obligation is $1500 more than taxes paid, you'll qualify for a refund.
The answer CAN be found at the IRS website. I suggest you try using google like this: energy rebate window limit year site:irs That should set you in the right direction. From the actual source, not hearsay 3rd parties. If my answer is the best, please vote as best answer. Thank you.
