Question:

can you have too much iron?

can yacan you overdose on iron

Answer:

I'm going to guess you're the average Joe and have never soldered before. If you're not please ignore me. My suggestion for someone who wants to fix a broken copper line and is unfamiliar with soldering. Buy 2 copper compression couplings and a new piece of pipe. Total cost about $30 bucks and you don't have to worry about trying to fix a solder leak with water in the pipe. If you've never soldered before, trust me this will give you nightmares. Compression couplings fit over the pipe and you use 2 wrenches to tighten them. they are made of brass, available at any Home Improvement store. Cut out the bad section of pipe and measure the gap from end to end, this is how much pipe you will need. Make sure you replace it with copper and not cpvc. cpvc will fail with this type of fitting.
It depends upon what the plumber's rates are in your area where you live. If the burst pipe has been exposed all somebody has to do is repair the pipe, It shouldn't take over an hour. When you call, just ask how much their hourly rate is? Something that small, you wouldn't get an estimate for. Good luck.
If you are overloaded with iron you can get iron plaque in your arteries that can clog up your arteries like too much cholesterol. The iron content in liver is exceptionally high so too much liver could overload your body with iron.
Yes you can have too much iron in your body. However this is usually a inherited disorder, unless you are menopausal and then it seems to come from a metabolic disorder. Likewise you can overdose on vitamins that contain iron, see this web page: www.nlm.nih /MEDLINEPLUS/ency/.
ABSOLUTELY, yes. Normally, most of the iron in the body is stored in hemoglobin inside red blood cells. When there is more iron than can be bound in hemoglobin and it is free to circulate, it is very damaging to tissues. It induces oxidative stress (almost like it's rusting inside your body). There is a genetic disorder that predisposes a person to iron overload called hemachromatosis. This is the most common way to get iron overload. You can overdose by taking too many iron supplements but it is very difficult and rare to eat too much iron in your diet.
