I think the school assumes the parents have instilled in their children the value and necessity of the schoolwork they do each day. When they miss it, they go back to a class that has been taking in and building on knowledge for a couple days or more. Naturally, the kids are focused on the short range view: days off of school, which feels good. However, the long range view is that they miss their knowledge, and have some loss.
If the tile is ceramic, it does not need sealing. However, the grout does need sealing. If the grout is not epoxy, then you need to seal all grout.
Ceramic tile doesn't have to be sealed, only a grout joints have to be protected by sealer.
