Anyone who has, or their children have, a captains bed...was it a good investment? Im getting my 4 yr old a bed (currently in a toddler bed)...i found a captain's bed i really like, but it is $349. It is well made, and sturdy, but i was really only planning on spending maybe 300 total, including mattresses. Now with this bed, plus bunky board, and mattress i will be at over 500. Is it a good investment? Did you notice them being sturdier than just a headboard/footboard? Thumbs up or down? Thanks!
My son has a captains bed. It definitely has pros and cons. It is difficult to make. I find it hard to get the sheets on it and my 10 year old son really has trouble with it. The bed has to say against the wall and things fall back behind the bed and are difficult to retrieve. It is pretty big, and since it has to be against the wall, you really are kind of stuck with where you want to put the bed. It is nice to have all the drawers under the bed, even though my son tends to leave the drawers open and that drives me nuts. Overall, if I had to do it again, I wouldn't get the captains bed. For me the negatives outweigh the positives.
I've never paid that much for a captain's bed. My daughter has a captain's bed now and totaled, the mattress, bedframe with 4 drawers and bedboard the entire set up cost only $250.00 You might want to check Ikea...
I had a captains bed that really sucked, it was one large drawer that wasn't on a track so it was very hard to get out if anything was in it. Later I had one that was great and it can save a lot of space Load the drawers with heavy objects and see how easy it is to move them. On the other hand you can get under the bed storage containers that are plastic now, and those might be easier to clean.... if something were to get left in them and get icky.
Check out your local Ethan Allen Furniture Gallery for a Captain's bed. Why there? Go when they have their annual sale. You will be able to save $$$ and walk away with an outstanding product, that WILL last for many years to come. As for the bed itself; I think they just get in the way. They are very hard to make(blankets and sheets tend to drift out of reach. Honestly, I would consider something else that will meet your needs for the long haul. Also, try your local membership club such as Sam's , Price Club/Costco, or BJ's for some good bargains on mattresses.
