Rent an industrial type cleaner from home depot. Its super cheap for a 4 hour rental. The ones you buy in store break easily and do not get down to the carpet pad.
call around to some of the professional carpet cleaners, they will always have specials, I have 8 cats and white carpet, yes WHITE carpet, we use Stanley steamer about every 3 months we pay 150.00 for the upstairs, the top level of the house is 2700 square feet down stairs is all hardwood plus we spot clean if necessary, oh ya invest in a Dyson vacuum, they are awesome, you will never worry about hair again
