Question:

cat-back exhaust systems?

I have a vortex high performance muffler already installed on my truck. Now is that considered,cat-back exhaust also? The muffller performs very well and has good hp gain‘s and sounds like a souped up iroc or something. If it is the case, that it is not cat-back,then I need to get a good cat-back system. Please, give me your professional output. Thanks Axelbeast

Answer:

Cat back means an entire kit that replaces piping from the cat all the way back to where the tip exits. Most vehicles have a smaller stock tube diameter than the replacement cat back exhaust systems, all this means is that the stock system is more restrictive than a bolt on system. On newer vehicles there really isn't that much difference in the diameter and bends of the stock system compared to the performance system. Mainly the stock muffler is all you need to replace for a less restrictive one. On my 2001 6 liter dually, I replaced the headers and just the muffler, all the stock piping is mandrel bent already with no sharp bends, works just as good. Friend of mine has identical motor and truck with cat back system, doesn't sound as good and not as powerful as mine. Good Luck.
This Site Might Help You. RE: What is the catalytic converter and is it a big priority? I just went to Auto Zone and they ran the computer on my car (2002 Toyota Camry) because the engine light was on, this is what they said: The PCM has determined that the catalyst system efficiency for bank 1 is below threshold for the current engine operating conditions. Explanation- The.
Ok I think some have failed to notice that 1 through 4 are noted by autozone as PROBABLE causes. So, what I understand is that Autozone has scanned your computer and found a code for: bank 1 cat system below threshold. Then they give you a list of probable causes (1-4). They are not telling you that your car has all of these problems, they are saying that 1 or more of these problems are likely present and causing this code and the light to come on. Being a toyota I would first guess #3 which would indicate a possible intake gasket leak. Bu you need a proper diag to be sure. Scanning any car gives you a code, and it does not tell you which part to replace, but it gives you a starting point of what to look for. You could search the forums or try to locate a toyota tech and find out if there are any service bulletins for this issue. Certain GM cars that are actually made by toyota have a service bulletin for this same issue which is caused by an intake leak. - Just a starting point.
the amount of pollution that all the cars produce together can create big problems. To solve those problems, cities, states and the federal government create clean-air laws that restrict the amount of pollution that cars can produce. Over the years, automakers have made many refinements to car engines and fuel systems to keep up with these laws. One of these changes came about in 1975 with an interesting device called a catalytic converter. The job of the catalytic converter is to convert harmful pollutants into less harmful emissions before they ever leave the car's? exhaust system. Catalytic converters are amazingly simple devices, so it is incredible to see how big an impact they have. If the catalytic converter is not working it will cause the 02 sensors to not work properly causing the car to adjust wrong for the air fuel mixture. If that happens it will either dump too much and cause it to run rich or not put in enough and thus causing it to bog down and run lean.
