I jst bought a pre 1980 Cat loader from someone and he wrote me up a receipt. Is that enought for proff of ownership?
It should be, but a bill of sale would be better, with date of purchase, serial and model number, and signed and notarized by the seller. It is legal to run on roads as long as lights and flashers are in working order. There is no registration or license as it is an off road vehicle.
you still need a registration for it take your serial no to any cat dealer he will run a back ground check on it for free. If the number comes back as stolen or a bank is looking for it the will tell you. In some states like co. you will need to license it.After all is said and done go to the transportation dept. and get your paper work done
Heavy construction equipment does not have Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) like cars or trucks, but should have a manufacturer's serial number. In most states they are considered to be personal property and are not licensed or registered as motor vehicles. A Cat equipment dealer should be able to research the serial number on your loader to see if there are any problems with the ownership.
If it has a VIN (or identification number) you will need a title to be able to register and license it.
