Question:

Ceramic or metal braces?

So I‘m getting braces soon and I‘m really dreading them. I want to get the ceramic ones but sometimes they look like someone put hot glue on their teeth. Or is that because they are stained from not maintaining them? I‘m not worried about staining because i brush my teeth regularly, but I don‘t want it to look funny. I tried looking at pictures online but they were all professional and I couldnt tell. Thanks for the help (:

Answer:

Hi, ceramics are much healthier as they won't be releasing metal ions into your mouth body continually, which may make the liver toxic trigger heavy metal illness.
I have metal braces and they've been absolutely fine, if i were you i would go for metal braces. Don't dread getting braces the only bad part is after they've put them on. It doesn't hurt at all when they put them on just about 2 hours later. Mine were sore for about 2 days and then the pain went away. If you take some pain killers before they start to hurt then they will be working by the time your teeth start to ache. You can also change the colours every time you go and they dont look as bad as everybody thinks.
If you're still in middle/high school, go for the metal braces. You get to have fun with the colors and you don't have to worry about stains (because trust me, even if you brush your teeth regularly, ceramic braces will stain regardless). Plus, metal brackets are smaller, so I've found them to be more comfortable. If you're a little older, you could go for either. I got ceramic on my top row, because I'm in college and tend to feel pretty self-conscious about my braces, so I wanted them to be a little subtle. But I know some adults (like my old boss) who have metal braces. Ceramic is nice because, as previously stated, it's more subtle. And I think people realize pretty quickly that they're braces, so. don't worry about looking like you've got hot glue on your teeth, haha. The brackets themselves won't stain, but the ligatures stain ridiculously quickly. You can get light grey ligatures, though. They're slightly less subtle, but they won't stain nearly as much. Ceramic brackets are a little bulkier, so I had a harder time getting used to them. So. I won't tell you what to do, but I hope I've given you some kind of helpful opinions.
