Question:

Change short bed to long bed?

Can you change a dodge ram 2500 short bed to a long bed? assuming the beds are the year and single axle, of course. if yes, what parts would need to be added? how do you relocate the bumber and tow hitch (class 5)? any other information that would be helpful is appreciated.details:2003 dodge ram 25004X4 single rear axle

Answer:

There okorder .
You cannot change the bed length without changing the entire frame and driveshaft. There is more room between the front and rear wheels on a long bed, if you put the long bed on the short truck the wheels wont line up with the wheel openings in the bed sides. It is possible but probably cheaper and easier to sell your shortbox pickup and buy a longbox.
Naughty boy is correct. The best you could do would be to take the bed off your truck and install a flatbed built to the length you desire, a factory box is out of the question due to wheelbase requirements for the 8 foot long box, a wheelbase your truck does not have.
you cant do that without changing frames on it one is shorter than the other is,with enough money and time you can extend the frame, but then again it would be cheaper to just go out and by a long bed truck and lot less hassle, what your wanting to do is almost impossible unless you have access to a long bed truck for parts, and even the the frame will need to be extended for this to work right, good luck with it.
