Question:

Chimney free coal stoves?

what if we trap the exhaust gases of coal stoves and used them for heating water. The heat available in exhaust gases can be extracted to heat water so that heat energy of trap exhaust gases can be used to produce steam..I am talking about portable coal stoves.Cant we have something like that?

Answer:

They make heat exchangers that will do that. You attach a small regenerative heat exchanger in the stack which has a water inlet and outlet and get hot water. They have to be cleaned on a regular basis and you have to be careful not too cool the exhaust gasses too much or they won't exit the stack. I don't think you can produce usable steam that way.
