Question:

Cold air intake for mazda!?

Hello is it possible to install a cold air intake on a 1991 Mazda 626 DX? Is there a website where I can obtain one, or make one myself?

Answer:

yes its possible, no its probably not worth the cash. why not find a better cam/exhaust system first. then you might see a gain from a cold air, might.
The problem is the air flow sensor which bolts to the air box. You would need an adapter and a way to keep the AFS from flopping around. If you look on the stock air box there is a snorkel that picks up air low in the engine compartment. It also has a resonance chamber in it. That resonance chamber helps smooth out a flat spot at lower RPM's. If you delete that- you might notice a little difference in how the car accelerates. But the end of this snorkel is a good place to connect to. Find some fittings that will let you run from that to a scoop under the front bumper. A shop back dry floor tool works nicely. Then put a KN filter that fits the stock air box. I used a tee with a reducer on a Mazda product at the bottom of the snorkel and used a reducer (down to 1/2) on back side (when installed so the snorkel is off to the side) so that any rain or moisture picked off of the road would not enter the air box, well at least reduces the chances. This is a ram air set up! If you just want a cold air intake- the 626 has one already built in.
