Question:

Cold Air Intake for Nissan Altima 2.5 (Need Advise)?

Hi, I plan to buy the Injen cold Air Intake system for my Nissan Altima 2.5S (2005 Model), has anyone installed and used it or can gimme the pros and cons of installing one. Will it really improve the MPG (Miles Per Gallon) she gives me?

Answer:

A cold air intake system should be mounted securely, and have fresh rubber hose used at all the connecting points. If you have a few tools and an afternoon clear you can perform the installation yourself in about 3-5 hours if you have never done something like this before, or around 1-3 hours if you have some wrench turning expeirience. The reason for having a cold air intake system is to cool the air entering your engine, cold air is more dense and compresses more with the fuel. You will want to make sure your mass air flow meter will work with your new kit, or you will set an engine code and your malfunction indicator light will come on. Now you can hide that light with a picture of someone, but then how will you know if something else goes wrong with your vehicle?
I have an 2005 nissan altima 2.5s, and i have added the injen Cold Air Intake to my engine!!!! First of all, if you live in an area where it rains quite a bit or snows, you should still get the CAI but get a bypass valve. I live in Upper Michigan where its very cold and when it rains it can be quite bad, where there are puddles all over the street. Ever since I've moved up here i have hydrolocked my Nissan twice!!! the first time i was very very very lucky, i didnt even have to clean my filter or drain any oil only replace the spark plugs, but the second time which happened 3 days ago, is a whole nother story. I replaced the oil twice after pulling the plugs. changed the oil filter. cranked it without the plugs to shoot out the water, but only got a little bit out. I bought some sea foam to help clean out the oil and also to spray into the upper intake. still wont start, it cranks but wont start. Still working on but it just goes to show I really shouldve gotten a bypass valve the second i bought the intake.
The Injen kit is a good one, I have one on my 240. You should have no problem with the fitment, or your mass air flow meter bolting up. Also if you have a intake air temperature senson, it will have the holes already for it. I definately noticed a performance gain, and not too much decrease in mpg. It will all depend on how you drive with it. 2 things you should definately do though, is get an air bypass valve, thats so if you drive through a deep puddle, your intake will not suck up water. If you suck up water, you will hydrolock your engine, breaking something since water doesn't compress like air and fuel, and end up costing yourself a hell of a lot more than the $20 or $30 they will run you. The second thing is replace the filter with a KN or better. The Injen filter blows, compared to KN, but it isn't completely necessary.
