i want to put a cold air intake on my jetta or some kind of intake for horsepower and sound. the thing im worried about is the air flow censor on my stock intake now.if i put a new intake in will it trip the censor? will it make my check engine light come on?also where will i put the cencsor where would it plug into if i got a new intake?
A high-flow air intake system and free flowing exhaust will help, but not much more than five horsepower. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with VW's in general is that they weigh too much. Consider doing everything possible to lose additional weight. You might think about running a smaller battery, ditching the spare tire and jack components, and investing in light weight seats. A turbo VR6 would get you more power, but it would be very fragile and very expensive. Properly done, a Turbo VR6 project could run up to $5000. Exhaust upgrades like a chambered muffler will make the car sound much better, although it gets annoying at times and the automatic spoils any chance of having an aggressive shift tone. Good Luck

Tyler prepare to get schooled. First off go and look up censor, it is not the word you meant to use. Improper word usage makes you look like a dummy. Now on the the cold air intake. Tyler your Jetta has a perfectly good CAI right from the factory, designed by famously intelligent German engineers. Do you think you are smarter than a German engineer? Of course you're not, you can't even use the right word. Go out to your Jetta and pop the cover off the air filter box and remove the filter. Now feel around in there. You'll find that there is an air inlet to that box that originates behind the front grille. It draws in air that is. . .well. . ld! You see, you already have one. Furthermore it was designed to make use of science. A phenomenon known as the Helmholtz pressure wave or Helmholtz resonance.[you should look it up] The shiny useless tube you wish to use is just that. A shiny useless tube that [and this comes from the manufactures own graph] will kill your low end torque as well as doing a miserable job of filtering the incoming air [see silicate contamination from KN filter]. You will feel the power loss in your everyday driving. It is significant. You will gain an Imperceptible gain at top revs. So in summation you want to remove a scientifically engineered part to replace it with a useless tube that will decrease your low end torque and allow grit into your engine. My advice. Keep your hands in your pockets. Oh, Most CAI have a hole with a rubber bushing to stuff your IAT sensor into but your not going that route anymore because you, having read this, are now smarter than that.
