Question:

Cold air intake, Hydrolocking. ?

I am interested in getting a cold air intake, but i am VERY concerned about hydro-locking. I want to know what are the chances of my car hydro locking if i was to get a cai. I live in Euless, Texas, 76021. If i am very concerned about this should i just get a short ram intake?

Answer:

i run short ram on my car, there's not a big enough difference if you're stressin over gettin water into it.
been driving over 40 yrs ive never had any car or truck ive drove hydro lock and really ive drove thru some deep water and heavy rains you know that most cars made now the air intake is right behind grill and most of them i know of dont suck in water like that and the older ones with just breather on top of motor ive drove in water deep enough that i couldnt see the dash and never had much problems with that other than being wet from tennessee i lived in low land and we get a lot or rain also dont think its much to worry over
Unless your driving threw water hood deep you have no reason to be concerned about hydrolocking your engine. If you install a short ran intake an open your hood while its raining it wont hydrolock. Hydrolocking happens when all the air intake takes in is ALL water, with no air (for instance driving threw extremely high water) an your cylinders cant compress water and thus you have a big problem. Just reg rain and splash up into the engine bay wont hydrolock your engine.
