Question:

cold air intake problems?

i have recently bought a KN cold air intake kit for my 2005 ford f150 5.4l. I installed the cold air intake and now at wide open throttle it hesitates for a second then it takes off but it only does it when its cold? Where should i start. i heard it could be the spark plug gap. could this be it?

Answer:

with a cold air intake you will get hesitation in the low rpms because the piping is longer than a short ram intake and the air takes longer to travel. Once you hit high rpms you notice a boost. This means when you gas it hard you may be feeling that hesitation in the low rpms before your engine revs high enough to get that cold air boost
it is breathing easier the mass air flow sensor should most likely be the culprit of the troubles. it is reading a set amount as were a aftermarket will be calibrated for the extra air flow thus controlling the fuel properly. the fox bodied mustangs were a nightmare to do a cold air kit on cause of that problem
