Question:

cold air intake question???????????

i have a KN cold air intake i saw some similar cone filters that were bigger and looked to grab more airflow should i buy this bigger aftermarket cone filter i saw or is using my KN cone filter that came with my intake better? i mean is it possible that a cheap aftermarket filter is just as good?

Answer:

KN is the way to go. However someone has to tell you the negatives, so here they are: KN (and similiar companies) adds to top end horsepower, actually takes some away from low end (thats why they only show you the high end of the dyno results) Any cold air intake that is mounted low to the ground will injest water if you drive through flooded roads.(thats part of the reason why the stock intake is high up) So if you want to risk water injestion if you will drive through a flood, and dont mind losing some low end power, go ahead. However, KN is a great product. and you will notice more high end power.
Those after market air filters are ok but the KN filters are the top of the line. Stick with what has been tested and has proof that they work good. After all do you really want parts on that are Made in China? Just being bigger does not mean better. If you have a Cadillac, why replace it with a Cavalier?
they are all pretty mcuh the same when u go after market. cones are better then flat ones. u also have to make sure if u do go bigger it fits in the compartment. and it really depends on your vehical. if u have a turbo you want a dry air filter because if u have a kn and u oil it regulary they will start to ruin turbos.
