Question:

Computer monitor as an HDTV?

I am soon going to buy a new 21.5 inch LCD computer monitor from Newegg. i read on the reviews that it can be used as an HDTV also if you have speakers and a receiver. I was thinking about doing this, where can I get a receiver and speakers?

Answer:

If that LCD monitor can be used as an HDTV, the best way would be with a digital HD cable box. Digital HD cable boxes usually have either HDMI or DVI outputs, and can be connected directly to an HDCP-compliant monitor, and you can watch all the cable channels including the HD ones such as Discovery HD, CNN HD, HBO HD, etc. if you signed up for those pay channels. You can also use an ATSC tuner box, which is designed to receive over-the-air broadcast HD from your local stations (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB, PBS), but that's all you can watch. A digital HD cable box is the way to go IMHO. So call your local cable TV service provider if you don't have a digital HD cable box. Hope this helps.
