Is it worth buying any ? Just for collection purposes ?
The very cheapest way to invest in copper is to visit your bank and buy rolls of pennies. Sort through them and pick out those made before 1982. These will be 95% copper. Take the others back to the bank and repeat. Even if the economy gets much better and copper prices fall you won't lose your investment since they will still be worth a penny. It is currently against the law to melt down copper pennies. Copper ingots and bullion often sell for more than spot prices. Investing in ingots and other pure copper bullion will be costly compared to saving pennies. Pennies made in 1982 can be copper or mostly zinc. It is the year the government changed over to mostly zinc. If you have a small scale that weighs grams you can tell the difference easily. A copper penny will weigh around 3.11 grams.
More volatile than Gold and Silver. Better investment than Facebook.
As long as it doesn't leak, it'll be fine.
Gold, silver, and platinum are considered precious metals and sold by the ounce. Copper is an industrial metal and is sold by the ton. Bid/ask spreads on a small quantity would make it a terrible investment. Buying a few tons would be challenging to store. If you want to invest in copper, buy futures contracts or a copper mining stock like FCX.
