Question:

My Card Reader (connected to my computer) isn't working?

I have a 2.0 GB San Disk Memory Card.I have pictures and videos on it I need to transfer to my computerand I have a slot for it on my computer, but every time I insert itnothing happens! It plays the sound that tells you that you've inserted some hardwareand I can click the thing in the bottom right corner to Safely Remove Hardware(it shows up as Secure Digital Storage Device). But I don't know how to get the pictures/video! I don't have a cord for the camera to plug it into the computer (I got the camera at a garage sale) I looked in My Computer and it doesn't show up there either.can anyone help?

Answer:

The card reader ought to show up in My Computer as a new drive. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as Drive G: or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.
I have a multi-function memory card reader and whenever I try to read a 2GB memory x-D device, I can't read it either. It is a limitation of the reader. Not ALL readers are capable of reading the higher GB modules. The modules work fine in the camera but can't be read through the reader. I have to connect the camera in the conventional USB way and download through the camera.
Once you insert the card into the reader, you should hear a sound. The sound tells you that you've got removeable storage inserted. Now, go to My Computer. One of the drive letters corresponds to the slot on your computer. If you double-click on it, you should then see a folder, likely to be labeled DCIM, and then folders within that, which will contain your images and videos. From here, you can select any or all of the images and videos and just copy them onto your computer, by copying/pasting, clicking and dragging, or using the menus.
