I just replaced the copper wiring in my home and have about 30 feet left over , how much should I get by going to a recycling company or scrap yard ?????????
For 30 feet of wire you would not get enough to pay for the gas to go to the recycling center. Why not just save it for later?
you can expect about 95 cents per pound and thats on the higher end for copper wire with insullation still on it. you are better off saving it for future use of giving it to someone who can use it. I take my scrap copper to a scrapyard, and since I am on construction sites regularly I also collect scrap wire I see laying around.
Unless you simply can't store it I would keep it. The Insulated wire is worth more then the copper is.
Look in the phone book for metal recycling companies. Ask them how much per pound copper is getting and if you have to have the insulation stripped before they'll accept it. It may be better to just hang onto the wiring because there will always be some electrical project you'll need it for in the future.
