i have a socket 775 motherboard is it worth getting an am3+ motherboard and a bulldozer 4 core at 3.6ghz or stick with 775 and get a core 2 quad at 3ghz ?
I have a Core2 775 thats still in the top 1000 global benchmarks, so they work well indeed! Old my butt! If you are looking for speed, and have the wallet, you better go newer.
Definitely not. If you're going to get a new motherboard, a socket 1155 would be by far the best choice. Bulldozers are horrible, and Phenoms (which outperform them) are getting old.
I'd go with the bulldozer one, since core 2 quads are sort of unreasonably expensive at this point in time, and the price to get a good core 2 quad would be roughly the same as a decent AM3 motherboard and bulldozer processor. However, like the others said, an 1155 socket motherboard and SB processor is a far better option.
I'd go with the Bulldozer since the Core 2 Quad is way behind in the technology and design, it's about 5 years old and the features in it are weaker than the features of the newer processor models, so if u have the budget for the bulldozer, then go for it.
