Question:

Could a dying power supply be causing my stereo components to act up?

I've been having erratic issues with my stereo for a few weeks nowThe CD player works sometimes by either running fine or it'll just illuminate and not functionSome buttons on my receiver don't function and the likeI've found that when I unplug and re-plug them that nothing changesHowever, I've just unplugged the power supply (old) and they seem to be functioning againCould that be the problem?

Answer:

Hi What?.The old power supply should be replaced.cheers!.The cold weather can play havoc with electrical equipment (hi-fi).I have used electrical equipment in minus 7 C degrees(outside temperature).but the thing you should do is keep the room warm so the trick is to insulate the equipment (after use only!!!) and one easy way to do that is simply by putting a sheet and then something over it again like a blanket, let your equipment cool down for 5minsthe sheet stops the fine partical fibres from the blanket getting into the component air vents.so dont laugh,as this does work.and people wonder why i do this to my marshall valve amps!it's like putting your equipment to bed lol and for e.g A plasma tv i have in its manual it stipulates the temperature and altitude guides for use.it say's to avoid operating the tv at temperatures below 5 degrees C/(41F) and a altitude above 2000ft.The biggest problem when it is very cold is that if any electrical equipment gets the slightest bit of frost.what happens then, you have a minute build up of moisture and this process repeats its self over the winter time and condensation occurs.thus creating rust spots throughout the electrical unit.which can cause shortening out of wiring etc etcsorry for rambling.but i find it plausible to explain various scenarios.Cheers What?
