Question:

Crack in furnace by heat exchanger ?

I have the exact same crack as the the photo this person posted in a forum . I was just wondering if it was hazardous. Thanks.

Answer:

Its not that bad, this can be repaired. this is just the front plate that can be replaced get the model and serial number and you can order this from the manufacturer. If the main heat exchanger tubes are in good condition, you can replace this front plate and get a few more years out of tis furnace I've done this exact repair several times..But I have been a service tech for a long time. Not the easiest repair for a novice...but it can be done..
Yes it is do not use
Looks to me like the front plate is cracked in the picture. You would have to remove the front plate and inspect the heat exchanger for crack in that spot. If the heat exchanger is not cracked, you can replace the front plate. However, this maybe fall under the heat exchanger warranty. If the heat exchanger is cracked its is not recommended to use the furnace. You should install a carbon monoxide detector if do not have one installed already.
It definitely is but if you have a carbon monoxide detector you can probably use until you can replace it or get it welded. I check for recalls and if it is still under warranty.
