An aluminum calorimeter with a mass of 100 g contains 250 g of water. The calorimeter and water are in thermal equilibrium at 10°C. Two metallic blocks are placed into the water. One is a 150.0 g piece of copper at 40.0°C; the other block has a mass of 70 g and is originally at a temperature of 100°C. The entire system stabilizes at a final temperature of 20°C.Answer in cal g?°CI am totally stuck. I am not getting a specific heat that matches the metals on the answer sheet!
taking the values for specific heats as C3 390 J/kg K for copper and C2 4200 J/kg k for water, C1 900 J/kg k for Aluminium and C to be the unknown value for the metal, using the principle of mixtures you ca n write, heat gained by cold bodies heat lost by hot bodies ( 0.1 x 900 + 0.25 x4200 ) ( 20 - 10 ) 0.15 x 390x(40 - 20) + 0.07 x C x (100 - 20) solving which you get C 1100 J / kg K ( nearly)
