difference between insulation and refractory?
Insulation retards the passage of heatRefractories bear up under intense heatMany types of insulation will break down/melt under intense heatRefractories aren't usually good insulators but they don't break down or meltFiberglass batts works very well as insulation but you can melt it into a chunk in a hot wood fireStyrofoam is also a good insulator but burnsSame with shredded paper (cellulose)Refractories are like firebrick used to line a fireplace because regular brick wouldn't hold up to the heat, it would crumble after a short timeThey aren't good insulators but are used in furnaces and crucibles to handle molten metal You can have one or the otherIt's rare to find something that does both wellInsulation that can withstand extremely high temperatures isn't generally strong enough to be usefulThe foam glass tiles used on the space shuttles are an example of that-good insulation, resists high temperature, but very brittleThat brittleness is what destroyed the one shuttleEngineering is always a compromise.
i dont like calling people fat but maybe ur just fat:P
