Question:

Do accords have defective transmissions?

Mine has been slipping since 70k it now has 92k and its slipping real bad, how much do you think it would cost to rebuild/replace a 2002 Honda Accord SE's transmission?

Answer:

im not sure, but before you hit 100k miles, Honda might be able to assist you with the repairs or even all of it. there was a lawsuit about Honda and their faulty transmissions. you may be covered so look into it. my 98 accord tranny went out at 143k so i guess i got pretty lucky! v6 are more prone to slipping faster then the 4 cylinder because they used the same auto tranny for the 6 cyl that was used for the 4 cyl. and guess who makes our tranny? GM hhahaha oh man, theres a reason why we buy Japanese cars.
Honda did do a silent recall to replace many, but I think that time is up. I wish this was as easy as the first poster wants to believe it is. No flush/filter change cures a soft 3rd gear clutch plate that degrades and spits material all over the innards of the trans, clogging lube ports.
The transmissions on those weren't the best. Since yours is slipping, you need a rebuild or a new transmission. Changing the fluid probably will not help, and the transmission will continue slipping. Get it replaced before it leaves you stranded. The cost is about $2,000 for a rebuild upwards to $3,800 for a remanufactured unit from Honda. Or you can do what I did and swap it out for a manual transmission.
