do hybrids come in manual transmission?
Hi, yes, as someone else pointed out, you can get a used Honda hybrid with a manual tansmission, but that's about it. However, the most basic answer why is manufacturers of hybrids go with what makes the bottom line gas mileage numbers higher, and that's a CVT, not a manual tranny. No human can shift as quickly, as efficiently, or as smoothly as a continuously variable transmission (CVT). It's just not physically possible. Even a modern automatic transmission can't shift as well as a CVT, which is what most hybrids have. Everything evolves and a CVT gets better mileage than a manual transmission in real world driving (not a lab, but when real people drive on real streets).
To find a manual transmission hybrid, you'll have to look to the used market. The 2000-2005 Honda Insight and the 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid were available with a manual transmission, at least in the US. Otherwise, the hybrids on the market are all automatics of some form (CVT or eCVT).
that's a good question. and all of the hybrids that I've seen on the telly so far have all been automatic. I think it's because of the electric portion of the drive train and a manual transmission is not suitable for it.
