Question:

Do I have to change out my whole exhaust system?

I‘ve been looking at different exhausts systems for my car, it has a 3.5L V6 with catback that has stock dual pipes that are 2.5 inches in diameter i‘m pretty sure. My main goal is to add power, I already have a performance intake with custom tune, but now my exhaust is too restrictive, should I replace the whole system? (if I did I would keep basically the same diameter) or just the mufflers and leave the stock resonator? Also how much louder would that make it? I don‘t mind if its louder, almost would like it.

Answer:

If you think your performance intake with custom tune gives you more power, than I'd suggest going with the most expensive exhaust that will fit, and you can think you're ready to go to Daytona. Aftermarket performance parts take your money, and make your vehicle sound like it has more power. Especially with today's computer driven engines.
