Question:

do scrap yards take burnt copper?

I was wondering if scrap yards take copper wiring that have had the rubber burned off of it. Because someone told me that when u go to cash in ur copper wiring it cant have the rubber burned off of it. My copper has a green type of rust on it

Answer:

I ve worked at 4 different scrapyards and all of them took little amounts but no more then 10lbs
Some do but you get less for it
As a young boy I grew up stripping copper wire, my dad owned an Electrical business so scap copper was easy to find. I made a lot of money running a razor blade down the wire and pulling that gimp off, see then you've got # 1 copper, worth the most. I burnt copper over a burn barrel on occasion, but then it's worth a lot less. But for any wire smaller than number 8 you cant strip it so you may as well burn it. Because with the insulation on it it aint worth all most anything.
