Question:

Do tape together the batts of fiberglass insulation when insulating the wall of a new construction?

If so, what kind of tape do you use- duct tape, carton sealing tape, ???

Answer:

I don't think you canHow else are you going to know when it reaches the temperatureIf it doesn't reach a certain temperature, it won't work.
If you are using batting that has a paper face to it, that tab on each side is used to staple the insulation to the upright studs or horizontal girds (boards turned on their sides and run horizontally)If you are installing insulation and have to piece it together and it has paper on one side, you tape the seams to get a better sealYou can use packing tape but over time it will degradeDuct tape seems to last a bit longerIf the fiberglass insulation has no paper at all, it is unfaced and has no vapor barrier and does not need taping.
