Keep the shields and vent hoses in place and you won't have any problems. Batteries have been under the back seat for a very long time - like my '63 VW. There is no electric field associated with batteries. My reason for not liking the position has to do with the long cable run, voltage drop and living in a cold climate. Putting batteries far from where the electricity is used doesn't make a lot of sense.
