Question:

Do those lamps need a ballast?

High pressure sodium lamps, iodine tungsten lamps, metal halogen lamps, halogen tungsten lamps, those lamps that need triggers and ballast, and those lights?

Answer:

Happy to answer your question: In theory cannot use of electric light source directly, also is cannot use the alternating current (ac) light sources are used rectifier, because of high requirement of the voltage stability of the light source, an alternating current wave problems lead to voltage instability will greatly reduce the service life of the light source, actually it is better to remember, most energy-efficient light source need rectifier, like fluorescent lamp, LED lamp, energy saving tube and so on
High-pressure sodium lamps and metal halide lamps require ballast and trigger. Fluorescent lamp, high pressure mercury lamp, low voltage sodium lamp need ballast, need not trigger.
Light source which need trigger and simply is 220 v voltage couldn't light it, we need to give it a boost (I have a article on the principle of trigger space, you can go to look at) to the light source of light, it is clearly the light source is generally high brightness of the light source, volume is larger than the commonly used, such as high pressure sodium lamp, metal halide lamp, etc., wish you happy!
