I have an LCD monitor and I feel my nightvision is getting worse. This monitor has a very bright picture. Can it cause permanent damage to my eyes?? Any tips??
Any bright light is going to have a temporary effect on your night vision. No it will not damage your eyes. It can just be quite a shock when your eyes have adjusted to the dark. Compared to sunlight it is pretty dim. Try reading the screen if direct sunlight, I doubt that you will be able to.
If it's too bright, then you might want to tone it down a little. Your nightvision is not getting worse. Monitors cause eye strain, but I promise it won't permanently damage your vision unless you sit in front of the computer 24/7, 5 inches away. Another reason, is when you are looking at a bright light source (in this case, your monitor) your pupils narrow to let in less light. When you look in the dark, the pupils are still narrow, so not a lot of light is getting into your eyes. If you wait a while, the pupils will dilate to adjust to the darkness. Make sure you do not stare at the monitor too long. It will cause eye fatigue. A good rule of thumb is to look away about every 20-30 minutes. Focus on a distant object for about 30 seconds and blink a couple of times. This should help relax your eyes a little.
