Question:

Do you need a license to operate heavy earth moving machines?

Do you need a drivers license to operate heavy machinery like a caterpillar, digger, crane etc (stootskraper) or do you have to have another type of special license to operate these machines.

Answer:

Not a government issued license as you would for a car, but it is compulsory for crane operators, TLB operators, Bobcat operators, Tipper truck drivers as well as the various other operators to attend a 5 day training course at an accredited service provider, as chosen by the company, if successful, the operator is granted a Certificate of Competency that is valid for 2 years and must be renewed within 90 days after such expiry, or else they will have to redo the 5 day training course, if they renew within the 90 days, an abridged 2 day course is possibleAll operators, further to that, also have to obtain a Medical Fitness Certificate once yearly where general health such as eyesight, blood pressure and hearing are scrutinisedIf not in compliance, the Department of Safety can shut down the entire site indefinitely which is basically a disaster in construction terms as the company will not be entitled to their normal PG (Preliminary and General) claim.
thanks my friend is making a mirror craft and this will help her ,
