Question:

dodge dakota V8 transmissions?

are dodge transmissions really as bad as some people say?

Answer:

There is NOTHING wrong with dodge transmissions. They are great if you ask me. I've never ridden in or owned a Chrysler/Dodge that didn't shift absolutely smoothly. The, I guess you'd say trick to those who disagree, is to change the fluid and filter regularly and use NOTHING but ATF+4. The most known problematic transmission is in their minivans. My dodge minivan has the A604/41TE and it has 135,000 miles on the original build and still shifts like new. All from changing the fluid and filter (which is nothing more than regular maintenance anyway).
yes they are i bought a 2004 dodge 1500 and they replaced the transmission 4 times before it had 24,000 miles on it ,i have personally rebuilt or replaced over 200 of these trannies, one of the reasons they go bad is the check valve they put up by the radiator it sticks closed and burns up the tranny, but im sure there are many that did not have to be replaced at all.the newer ones are better than pre 2004
no their not, whats bad about them is the people that own them, they don't do good enough maintenance on them when it should be done and then when it breaks down they start whining about having to repair them, and how dodges are junk,if you take care of one and do good maintenance on it,it will last real good,i got a few doges that have well over two hundred thousand on them and still have the original transmissions in them and that's because i have changed the fluid and filter when i should,my neighbor owns a lot of dodges ,actually more than i do and his are all high mileage vehicles and most of them are still running with the original transmissions in them, but we maintain them real good,if you buy a used car that someone hasn't taken car of you may have problems from it,most people run them for at least 100k and then trade them off, then someone comes along and buys it and boom, the transmission goes out,its not the fault of the car or the maker but the previous owners or present owners, good luck.
