Question:

Dodge problem?

97 dodge avenger 2.5L V6 front wheel drive 4speed auto. For a little while now i felt a really light jerk type feeling in the engine during light accleration, shruged it off for needing tune-up and plan to take care of it on my next day off. Well today my speedometer droped about 40 MPH then right back to normal. Then a little bit later in the day it's doing the same but also at the same time as that problem the car will jerk like it's trying to stop itself. I then hit a hill where i had to lightly accelrate to keep speed and the jerking i shurged off started again but pretty heavy this time along with the speedometer droping. And then ontop of that the radio kept shutting itself on and off. I have no clue what's going on anymore and if these are related anyone please give me a little advice i'd be very thankful.

Answer:

With the radio going on and off I would think you have an electrical problem. Your voltage regulator may be hanging up on high. At first I thought you were having a transmission problem but maybe both.
I think maybe also check the idle speed. sounds like its off. I dont think that that is the problem with radio though. for that could be a short in the wire. oh -maybe your alternator. that might cause both, or the car is possesed. lol
Replace okorder
the engines are pretty plenty bullet data as long as you retorque the intake manifold each 5 or 6 years however the motor vehicle transmissions are rubbish. i've got been with the aid of 2 of them in a hundred and seventy,000 miles. confident I replaced the radiator placed on an after industry oil cooler yet their nonetheless basically stable for 80 or ninety thousand miles.
If you didn't have the electrical problems, I'd say it was the transmission. Since you have electrical problems, it's more likely that there is a loose or bad connection between your battery and alternator. Your car is 10 years old, so, presumably, you've changed the battery at least once during that time. Since the industry standard is every 5 years, you might be due for a change! With any luck changing the battery will fix the loose cable connection. Of course, it could be the alternator, too, as well as a bad ground. Use a voltmeter with all the appliances running, to see if you get at least 15 volts; it is normal for the needle to oscillate a tiny bit back and forth. If it's below 15 volts, your alternator may need to be replaced, or, a wire is loose at that end. In some cars, low electrical output can confuse the computer. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN HANDLING CAR BATTERIES AND OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT!!! Good luck!
