I am specifically looking for their swedish meatball recipe from the 70's. The newer Better Homes Gardens cookbooks have a different recipe. That old recipe is my mom's favorite, but we lost that recipe can't find it anywhere. I'm not sure if it matters but we used to have the paperback version of that cookbook.
I'm not sure--but this is my mom's recipe for swedish meatballs--but I'm willing to bet that it came from that recipe book because that is where all her recipes came from! so hopefully your mom will remember if this is it: Swedish Meatballs 1/2 lb ground pork 1 lb. ground beef 3 pieces bread (white) 1 egg 1 pint half and half nutmeg, dill, pepper, salt, parsley mix meat in large bowl make bread crumbs-mix with meat, add couple of tablespoons of half and half to meat and bread (to moisten), add egg and mix well. add 1/2 tsp each salt, pepper, and nutmeg. add 2 tsp parsley, mix well-shape into meatballs. put small pat of butter into pan, add meatballs and cover for 10-15 mins. uncover and turn-lower heat. and re-cover. simmer till brown approx another 15-20 mins. put half and half in casserole dish (not corning ware-it'll explode!!) over low heat and add 2 or 3 pinches of dill-heat just till warm, remove from heat and add meatballs (personally-I just add the meatballs right away and stick this in the oven in my corning ware to heat)

I have a 1981 Better Homes and Gardens cookbook which has the following recipe for Swedish Meatballs 1/2 cup chopped onion 3 tablespoons butter or margarine 1 beaten egg 1 cup light cream 1 1/2 cups soft bread crumbs 1/4 cup finely snipped parsley 1 1/4 teaspoon salt Dash ground nutmeg Dash ground ginger Dash pepper 1 1/2 pounds ground beef * 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon instant beef bouillon granules 1/2 teaspoon instant coffee crystals Cook onion in 1 tablespoon of the butter or margarine till tender. In a mixing bowl combine egg and cream; stir in cooked onion, bread crumbs, parsley, salt, nutmeg, ginger, and pepper.Add ground beef or meats; mix well. Chill mixture. Shape chilled meat mixture into 3/4 to 1 inch balls. Brown meatballs, half at a time, in the remaining 2 tablespoons butter or margarine; remove from skillet. Stir in flour, bouillon granules, and coffee crystals into pan drippings; add 1 1/4 cups water. Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly. Add meatballs. Cover; simmer about 30 minutes, basting meatballs occasionally. Makes about 60 meatballs. * Or, use a mixture of 3/4 pound ground beef, 1/2 pound ground veal, and 1/4 pound ground pork for the meatballs.
